Days Duty: Our Commitment to The Wave Project
"Studies clearly show that there are social and wellbeing benefits to be derived directly from the social occasion of drinking, especially in relaxed social environments. That is why the practice has persisted for so long." - Professor Robin Dunbar, Evolutionary Biologist, Oxford University.
Beer is the world's oldest social network. It starts conversations & encourages people to open up. When we founded Days, we wanted to help facilitate more of these conversations. So, we decided to commit 2% of sales to initiatives that empower fresh thinking towards mental health. It’s a fundamental part of our mission to help our community live healthier lives.
We’re stoked to announce that we’ll be partnering with The Wave Project as part of our ongoing commitment to progressive mental health initiatives.
The Wave Project uses surf therapy, an innovative form of physical and mental health support that gives young people the chance to complete a six-week specialised surfing course. This course & its Surf Club aims to both improve mental health, and increase their access to future surfing sessions, while continuing to grow their skills and friendship-building. Pretty great, huh?
The organisation is the first surf therapy in the world to be funded by a government health service. Originally based in Cornwall, the Wave Project has expanded across the South West of England to North Yorkshire, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and London. To date, 5,000 young people have accessed Wave Project surf therapy courses.
Our donation will directly support and fund the training of up to 1,000 new volunteer surf mentors across the UK in 2022. This will include online training portals, in-water training sessions, lifeguard training, safeguarding costs and volunteer resources.
“We’re super excited to be working with Days this year and honoured to be the company’s lead charity partner in 2022. Like Days, The Wave Project is committed to helping people get the most out of their lives. We are grateful for Days’ kind offer of donating 2% of sales to the charity and look forward to partnering with them on their volunteer training days.” - Joe Taylor, Founder of The Wave Project.
We’re heading down to their South West project in April to check out the amazing work the guys do & maybe try some surfing ourselves. We’ll let you know how we get on...
